Conference championship odds

Saturday and Sunday saw some exciting action with the NFL divisional playoffs. But once the Chargers completed their upset of the Colts on Sunday, it was time for oddsmakers and professional bettors to start looking ahead.
Las Vegas Sports Consultants, the oddsmaking firm that provides odds to 90 percent of the legal sports books here in Nevada, sent out its recommendation on the AFC title game with the Patriots -14 vs. the Chargers with a total of 50. However, with Philip Rivers and LaDainian Tomlinson suffering knee injuries, those numbers came with a disclaimer that read: “Sendout is a BOTH IN number; BOTH OUT: Patriots -17.5 and 47.5.” The Las Vegas Hilton posted the Pats -15.5 at 1:37 p.m. Leroy’s went a little higher at 16 while the Stations and Palms went lower at 14.5. The Leroy’s and Hilton numbers came down quickly to 15 and that’s where they remained late in Sunday night. As more reports came out that Rivers and Tomlinson both said they expected to be ready by next Sunday, the number of books at 14.5 increased as it looked like that would be the most prevalent number at least early in the week. As of late Sunday night, the total hadn't settled as the low was 48.5 at the Harrah's network of books and 50 at the Wynn, Palms, Stratosphere and Leroy's.
In the time between the Chargers-Colts and Giants-Cowboys games, the Hilton put the AFC back up as an 11-point favorite in the Super Bowl. After the Giants' ousted the Cowboys, the team long expected to represent the NFC, that line was adjusted to the AFC -13.5 with a total of 54.5.
The NFC title game line also went up with most books making the Packers -7 over the Giants. The Wynn went with 7.5 while the Stations, Palms and Stratosphere started at 6.5. By 6 p.m. Vegas time, Stations had raised the line to 7 while the Wynn attached a -125 premium to the Giants +7.5 and appeared ready to get in line with everyone else at 7 though it remained there through the night. The Hilton opened the total at 44 but that got pounded down to 41.5 as all other books went with either 42 or 42.5.
The odds to win the Super Bowl were also released with the Hilton making the Patriots 1-3 with the Packers as a distant second choice at 9-2, the Chargers at 8-1 and the Giants at 12-1.
I'll have more in the Tuesdays With Tuley column and later this week ViewFromVegas.com will have the thoughts of LVSC oddsmaker Ken White plus picks from some of the top handicapper and bettors in town. Check the home page for updates.
